The Father of All Who Believe

The Father of All Who Believe

Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all. – Romans 4:16

The scripture teaches that Abraham is the father of all who believe. This means that he set an example for us on how to walk with God. The only way you can walk with God that you can’t see with your physical eyes is by faith. Faith is believing in the things that are not seen but real. Abraham modeled how to walk with God by faith.

A father is not just a male parent but can also be one who inspires you to attain greater value by their advice and example. He mentors you to live your best life. The Apostle said in 1 Corinthians 4:14 (NLT) “I am not writing these things to shame you, but to warn you as my beloved children.” He urged them to imitate him. No matter what else they hear they should learn to listen to him because he is their spiritual father who modeled Jesus to the church in Corinthians.

Abraham had an intimate relationship with God such that he could discuss anything with Him as a son would do with his earthly father. In Genesis 18:20 Abraham interceded for Sodom and stood before God pleading for His mercy even when he knew that God was determined to destroy the city because of their sins. Habakkuk acted in the same way in Habakkuk 2:1; taking advantage of the father–son relationship he had with God when it came to intercession. You too can go to God with His word concerning unresolved things in your life and He will show you where you are missing it; where you are not in agreement with His word.

God is everywhere, He is no longer in a place like in the days of Abraham. He is accessible by all. In proving His love for God, Abraham was asked to sacrifice his only son. Many believers today struggle to make sacrifices for the things of God because of their stunted spiritual growth. Abraham didn’t debate the matter or wait one week to execute it. You need to know and believe God enough to go ahead with such a demand. Do you know God? What extent of intimacy do you have with God? Do you believe God can bring the dead back to life?

Let those who glory, glory that they understand and know God. Stop copying the ways, behaviors and customs of this world. Let God transform you by changing the way you think. This can only be accomplished by spending time with God through His word. If you don’t understand salvation fully, you will remain a baby Christian. Always let the word of God become like poetry written and fulfilled in your life.

I pray that God will help us understand this. As fathers, we need to model Christ with an unshakable faith to our children. If you do it right your children will follow you.
