THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT

THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT

By Pastor Chinedu Emmanuel

Embrace the power of salvation’s full deliverance, like a helmet to protect your thoughts from lies. And take the mighty razor-sharp Spirit-sword[a] of the spoken word of God. Eph 6:17–18 TPT.

The sword of the Spirit is the word of God. This is not carnal or human but a spiritual weapon of warfare. This means that any word that is not God’s word is not His weapon and will not be effective in spiritual warfare. As believers we must never forget that the words we speak should be the testimonies of the Holy Spirit about Jesus Christ the Savior. For us to speak, we must first believe. If we do not believe that salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, we will basically have nothing useful to say. Jesus is the word; the living word that was made flesh. You activate the power in His word to function on your behalf when you believe all that Jesus did for you at Calvary.

The word is God’s testimony of His accomplished victory in Christ Jesus. The word tells us that we overcome the enemy completely through the blood of the Lamb   and the powerful word of a believer’s testimony. “And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.” Rev 12:11, ESV.

Our Lord Jesus Christ used the words of His Father to overcome the devil, He never spoke His own words. We do not engage the devil with anything except the word of God; the living word and the testimony of the Holy Spirit about Him. Matt 4:3–10 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. …Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. …Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. KJV

The spoken word of God changes things, it is an attack weapon to pull down whatever is working against us and a defense weapon to build what will work in our favor. The word of God in our mouth has the same power and ability as if God is the One saying it. It does not diminish in power just because we speak it and when we speak because it does not change. From Scripture we understand that when His word is released through us changes occur. Heb 11:3, “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.” KJV

The word in your mouth has the ability to create life or cause death. It can uproot and plant. What you say is what you get! David finished the battle before he engaged Goliath. He said what will happen before it even happened. He testified about the God of Israel Who had a covenant with Israel as armies of the living God; God was their commander! 1 Sam 17:45, “David replied to the Philistine, “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies—the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 Today the Lord will conquer you, and I will kill you and cut off your head. And then I will give the dead bodies of your men to the birds and wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel! NLT”

David was not testifying about Goliath but about the powerful awesome God of Israel. Many spend their time testifying about all the goliaths in their lives and they get easily defeated. Their faith shrivels, doubt and fear increase. They were defeated by their own mouth!!They dropped their weapon and sword at the bellowing of Goliath!! The enemy disarmed them easily. They are now saying whatever he motivates them to say!! They are like Saul before Goliath. They are now blind to the presence of the Lord. All they see is Satan and goliath. They are on the run!!! They only talk about what they see with their physical eyes!!

Hold on to your confession of the word. Do not change your testimony even when the journey seems tough. The devil wants you to disbelieve and deny the word of God in order to disarm you. Don’t let him trick you; the word is the sword to overcome him.

Heb 10:23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised; KJV
