The Unseen Force: Understanding the Law of Faith

The Unseen Force: Understanding the Law of Faith

By Pastor Chinedu Emmanuel

Hebrews 2: 1  “Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip”

Faith is powerful, but it does not operate randomly. It works according to spiritual principles, just like any physical law. If those principles are ignored, faith becomes ineffective. Just as gravity functions whether we understand it or not, the law of faith operates with consistency. When we align ourselves with its principles, results follow naturally. Understanding how faith works removes frustration and builds confidence in God’s promises.

The Foundation: Why Staying in the Word Matters

The Bible warns, “Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip” (Hebrews 2:1). When we neglect God’s Word, faith weakens. When faith weakens, the switch of divine power is turned off. Faith cannot remain strong without continual exposure to the truth.

Busyness, even when rooted in good things, can slowly pull us away from that which sustains our spiritual strength. Many leaders begin strong, but over time become spiritually drained because they become too occupied with people and not enough with God. Faith grows where the Word remains. As seen in the example of the Bereans in Acts 17:11, they searched the Scriptures daily. Faith leaves when the Word leaves. Daily time in the Word is not a luxury. It is a necessity for spiritual survival. Just as the body needs food each day, the spirit needs consistent nourishment from God’s truth.

Faith Is Present Reality, Not Hope

Many people confuse faith with hope, but Scripture clearly distinguishes between them. Hope speaks about the future, such as saying, “God will heal me someday.” Faith speaks about what exists now, such as saying, “God has healed me according to His Word.” Faith deals with substance, something real and established in God’s promise right now. It is rooted in what God has already spoken, not in what we wish might happen. Hope expects, but faith possesses. Faith lays hold of God’s promise as a present reality, even before physical evidence appears.

Principle #1: Faith Works Through Love

One of the most important laws of faith is found in Galatians 5:6: “Faith which worketh by love.” Bitterness and resentment are the fire extinguishers of faith. You may feel justified or wronged, but if bitterness remains in the heart, faith becomes powerless. It blinds spiritual vision and blocks revelation, as stated in 1 John 2:9. Unresolved anger becomes a foothold for the enemy (Ephesians 4:26-27). Forgiveness is not optional. It is a necessary condition for faith to flow. Love restores clarity and removes barriers that prevent faith from operating freely. When the heart is free from resentment, faith becomes stronger and more effective.

Principle #2: Faith Must Be Believed in the Heart

Faith is not an intellectual agreement. It is a deep, internal conviction. Romans 10:10 says, “With the heart man believeth.” Abraham demonstrated this by being fully persuaded (Romans 4:20 to 21). Faith becomes powerful when belief moves from the head into the heart. It is possible to know Scripture mentally yet struggle to trust it emotionally. True faith develops when God’s promises become deeply personal and firmly settled within.

Faith does not deny reality. True faith is not pretending problems do not exist. Faith acknowledges reality but exalts God above it. David did not deny Goliath’s presence. He simply declared that God was greater. Faith does not say “I am not sick” when symptoms exist. Faith says, “I believe God is working, even in the midst of this reality.” Faith focuses more on God’s ability than on the size of the problem. When doubt rises, return to the Word. As you meditate and reinforce the truth, faith increases and doubt weakens. Over time, confidence grows stronger than fear.

Principle #3: Faith Must Be Released by Words

It is not enough to believe silently. Faith must be expressed. “I believed, therefore have I spoken” (2 Corinthians 4:13). The woman with the issue of blood declared her healing before she touched His clothes. Her words revealed her expectation before the miracle occurred. Your words should carry quietness and confidence, (Isaiah 30:15) rather than agitation. If you truly believe, your mouth will reflect a settled peace. Words spoken in faith reinforce belief and strengthen spiritual confidence.

Principle #4: Faith Must Be Released by Action

Action proves belief. “Faith without works is dead” (James 2:26). When the crippled man at Lystra heard the Word, he did not cautiously test his legs. He leaped and walked. His action demonstrated trust in what he believed. Faith always produces movement. It may begin with a small step, but that step confirms confidence in God’s promise. Action turns belief into a visible expression.

Real faith produces rest. Consider Hannah. After she prayed, she returned home, began eating, and stopped worrying. Her actions reflected her confidence. When you believe, you cease from your own works and enter a state of spiritual rest (Hebrews 4:3). Rest does not mean inactivity. It means freedom from anxiety. Faith replaces striving with peace and replaces fear with quiet assurance.

Principle #5: Faith Works With Patience

Faith is not always instant. The Bible says in Hebrews 6:12 that we inherit promises through faith and patience. Patience protects faith. Symptoms may decrease gradually, step by step. Abraham did not set deadlines for God. He simply remained persuaded. Patience allows faith to remain steady during waiting seasons. Do not say, “It has been a month, it isn’t working.” Instead, declare, “God is working, even when I cannot yet see it.” Over time, patience strengthens endurance and keeps expectations alive.

Keep the switch on. Faith is a command: “Have faith in God” (Mark 11:22).

Faith is an active trust that flows through love, words, action, and patience. These are the channels through which faith becomes effective. When these principles are present, power flows. Faith becomes steady, confident, and productive. So guard your heart, stay in the Word, and speak with confidence.

Your faith will make you whole.
